N.L. Ferry Passengers Should Vacate Vehicles, Says Independent Risk Assessment

To stay in the car, or not to stay in the car, that’s the question on Newfoundland and Labrador. Since the ferry LEGIONNAIRE came into service last year, ferry passengers have been told they must vacate their vehicles during crossings. That prompted a ferry users group to advocate for passengers who need to stay in their vehicle for medical reasons, but an independent risk assessment sides with the existing rule, citing passenger safety.

Lloyd’s Register earlier concluded there were some hazards to passengers who remained in their vehicles, compared to passengers who vacated their vehicles while the ferries were in transit.
